Hays Companies is proud to announce that Bruce Lyon, Vice President and Director of Risk Management, was awarded 1st and 3rd place by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) for best member-authored articles of 2019, published in Professional Safety.
A global association for occupational safety and health professionals, the ASSP was founded in 1911. Since then, the ASSP has grown to more than 39,000 members in 80 countries worldwide, connecting professionals to a community of peers, resources, and opportunities through their Professional Safety journal and more. The monthly journal covers the latest safety management and injury prevention trends. The ASSP’s Editorial Review Board recognizes the three best articles published each year.
Lyon’s 1st place piece was “Moving Risk Assessment Upstream to the Design Phase,” which he co-authored with David Walline and Georgi Popov in November 2019, and his 3rd place piece was from May 2019 titled “Risk Treatment Strategies: Harmonizing the Hierarchy of Controls and Inherently Safer Design Concepts,” again written alongside Popov.
Lyon has over 37 years of experience in the insurance and consulting fields and continues to be a passionate advocate for the advancement of the safety profession. He is currently a board director of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), is the advisory board chair to the University of Central Missouri’s Safety Sciences program, chair of TC 262 U.S. TAG to the ISO 31000 Risk Management standards, and vice chair of ANSI Z590.3 Prevention through Design standard. Lyon also is a professional member of ASSP’s Heart of America Chapter, and a member of the Society’s Ergonomics and Risk Management/Insurance practice specialties.
