Hays Experts’ New Publication

Congratulations to Bruce Hollcroft and Bruce Lyon, two of Hays Companies’ Risk Control Directors, on their recent textbook publication titled Risk Assessment, A Practical Guide to Assessing Operational Risks. The book was written by Hollcroft, Lyon and Georgi Popov, Associate Professor on risk assessment at the University of Central Missouri.

Risk Assessment, A Practical Guide to Assessing Operational Risks, teaches the fundamentals of risk assessment to students and those in the safety, health and environmental professions, who recognize the need to refine their personal risk assessment capabilities.

Risk assessments have begun to receive more prominence in operational risk management systems. This book fills a content gap in educational material about the growing field of risk assessment.

“Working alongside industry experts at Hays Companies has pushed me to continue developing my risk management skill set and knowledge base. This book is an accumulation of my expertise and similar outside education,” Hollcroft remarked. “I hope it will be a guide to others interested in the topic and help cultivate our future risk assessment leaders.”

The authors intend for this text to assist professors at a university level who sense the need for their students to gain knowledge and aptitude with respect to risk assessment. It will also serve as a primer for employed safety professionals, needing a practical guide on risk assessment techniques.

Joe Williams Joins Hays Companies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 27th, 2016) – Hays Companies announced Joe Williams has joined its San Francisco operations as Senior Vice President. He will be responsible for spearheading new business development, leading and managing the team and continuing to build Hays’ renowned workforce.

“We are delighted to have Joe on board at Hays,” said Michael Egan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Hays Companies. “His knowledge and experience will add considerable acumen to our employee benefits capacities.”

Williams’s has over eleven years of experience in the employee benefits industry and has held previous high-level leadership positions; he will play a key role in spurring growth and development for Hays at the San Francisco office.

Williams formerly served as the Senior Vice President of Employee Benefits of HUB International, as well as Vice President of BB&T Insurance Services. Williams’s experience includes extensive work with medical/dental/life/disability insurance, underwriting, consulting, as well as ACA compliance.

Hays in the News – Risk and Insurance Magazine

In the most recent issue of FOCUS, Hays Companies concentrated on Cyber liability and the ever increasing attention it is receiving in the media. This caught the eye of Risk & Insurance magazine, requesting an expert opinion from our Dave Wasson, Cyber Liability Practice Leader with Hays Companies.

In discussing a recent New York Times article, detailing the prevalence of troll attacks from Russia, Risk & Insurance noted that our FOCUS issue spoke to how “brand terrorism” is becoming a new trend in cyber attacks. Troll attacks are “organized disinformation campaigns augmented by social media posts, [that] create an atmosphere of chaos and economic disruption”.

Dave Wasson provided further detail on this phenomenon, stating “The Internet has provided incredible transparency for sharing information on an anonymous basis that can often be viewed as one of the best attributes of the Internet. But that transparency cuts both ways in that the Internet provides an equal transparency for sharing misinformation.”

As our world is increasingly becoming more mobile and connected, the chances of a company experiencing some form of a cyber attack increases as well. Hays Companies has been a leader in the Cyber liability realm and is proud to participate in this piece.

Hollcroft Named Safety Professional of the Year

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently honored Hays team member Bruce Hollcroft with the Region I Safety Professional of the Year Award. The prestigious award for the West Region was based upon technical expertise, innovations to advance the safety profession, community involvement and endorsements from within the safety community.

Hays Companies Celebrates 20 Years

August 4th, 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Hays Companies.

Hays Companies started with seven people, and today, we are 700+ strong. We’re proud to be the 18th largest insurance brokerage in North America and the 9th largest privately-held brokerage in the nation.

More importantly, we’re thankful for all of our clients, vendors, employees and friends and their continued commitment to Hays Companies.

Margaret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”  Hays Companies is putting this thought into action through our hard work and support of Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable shelter, eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide. For the past five years, the Hays Volunteer Team has built safe shelters for families in need and worked in partnership with other businesses on the Entrepreneurs House. Mik Gusenius, Chair of the Entrepreneurs House Committee shared, “Since Hays has become a part of the program, the House has had its best fundraising years, raising more than $500,000 and contributing more than 2,000 volunteer build days. Hays has been an integral part of the continued growth.”

During the all-day build, Hays volunteers guided by experts, landscaped, framed pre-assembled walls, shingled roofs and installed flooring. At the end, when the houses were completed, volunteers had the opportunity to greet the future homeowners.

Hays Director of Claims Management, Robert Rangel said, “It was an inspiring day and a great way to bond with coworkers and learn new skills.”

On January 28th, Habitat for Humanity held the dedication ceremony for the 2013 Entrepreneurs House. We are honored to be a part of this organization.

Hays Vice President Wins Top Honors

At Hays, we only hire the best and brightest. We’re proud to recognize Jodie Braner, Vice President of Hays Companies of Georgia, who recently received two prestigious awards from the National Association of Health Underwriters. Jodie was awarded the highest honor, the Patty Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award, to recognize her career achievement, professional stature and civic, cultural, and humanitarian involvement.  Jodie also accepted the Distinguished Service Award for her significant contributions to volunteer service at the local, state and national level. In addition, she has been named President Elect to the Executive Committee Board of Directors for the Georgia Association of Health Underwriters, effective 2013-2014.

Jodie’s expertise in the insurance field has brought her significant attention and positioned her as a thought-leader.  Most recently, she was a featured guest on “The Doctors Roundtable” radio segment discussing the Affordable Healthcare Act and the effect it will have on consumers and employers.  You can hear the segment here.
